I just read a very insightful post over at Cath Lawson’s blog. She talks about how people will buy ebook after ebook (about how to write ebooks), take course after course, and yet never get around to actually DOING the thing that they are reading about.

I know about this. All I have to do is look at the entire shelf of books I have on novel writing. Either I am unmotivated or I am just not meant to write a novel. I prefer to think it’s the latter, since there is no beast of a story clawing its way out of me. I think I will have to content myself with writing short thoughts. You know, do what you’re good at!

So I won’t be writing an ebook anytime soon, either. I will, however, be writing an ereport. Or two, or three. I have several ideas for them, and they will focus on how to solve a very specific problem that people have been HOPING that they can solve. I also hope that they can solve their problem by reading my ereport and then implementing the advice given within, but as Cath points out, ultimately, it’s up to the reader.

They may not like what I have to say. What I am going to suggest to solve a particular problem involves hard work and no small amount of discipline. But, it works. And most people will probably read it and then go and do something else. Maybe one or two people will solve their problem, and that will be cool. Maybe I’ll end up pocketing hundreds or thousands of dollars from my report. That would be cool too.

I’m giving myself until the end of the day next Sunday to write the report. Hope doesn’t go far without action, does it?
